Thoughts on "Double Post"

January 1 2024. It’s the night my Texas Longhorns faced the Washington Huskies in the CFB Playoff. Late in the game, a valiant comeback drive gets to the 12-yard line with 15 seconds left. Three unsuccessful plays later, it is 4th & 11 on the Washington 13 with one second left. Timeout. Watching the game with my college QB son, he asked me: “What’s your call here?” With little hesitation, it would be some form of “Double Post.” It obviously didn’t turn out that way, but it did create a wonderful football discussion with literally one of the smartest people I know. It certainly helped take the sting out of an abrupt end to the 2023 season.

One of the staples of my “1 Play to Win” category in the from the 14- to 10-yard line has always been some variation of this concept. While we would carry several plays for this field zone, extra situational time and specific “End Of Game” features would often be dedicated to just these situations.
